NEWLY LAUNCHED - Samaritan 500P with CPR Advisor
Features :
Why CPR Advisor Is Useful
Studies have found that 70% of CPR performed by medical professionals or laymen are inadequate. Which means that the chances of survival of a victim is diminished dramatically due to inadeqauate CPR follow up after the shock is applied.
How does CPR Advisor Work?
The PAD 500P system monitors and informs the user regarding CPR quality. For example CPR should be Faster, Slower, Deeper etc depending on the CPR preformed. When good CPR is being adminsitered, the system informs the user of "Good Compressions"
Detailed Explanation :
CPR is the means of maintaining blood-flow around the body during Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) by physically pressing on the chest to express blood which can then supply oxygen to all the major organs – brain, liver, even the heart itself. The protocol for the administration of CPR is defined by the National Resuscitation Council (NRC) and is built into the PAD500P – CPR (at 100BPM for 1 minutes) – shock –CPR etc. To maintain oxygen levels in the blood, the user may also breathe into the patient’s mouth to re-inflate the lungs.
The Impedance Cardiogram (ICG) is a measure of the ability of the body to pass electricity (conductivity) through the Thoracic (Chest) Cavity, containing primarily the heart and lungs. Conductivity changes primarily according to the amount of blood and air in that cavity and the amount of salt in the blood. A measurement of ICG therefore gives some indication of the amount of blood. By calculating the amount of change in the ICG with time, the PAD500P can obtain a representation of the change of conductivity and, therefore, blood movement. This can only be achieved by employing sophisticated techniques in electronics and software to eliminate changes in impedance due to the compressions themselves – movement, expulsion of air from the lungs, and the heart’s electrical activity. For this reason, the processed ICG signal can only be considered a ‘representation’ of blood-flow rather than an accurate measurement of cardiac output.
The CPR guidance display on the HeartSine® PAD500P is intended as a visual aid to the user as to the efficacy of their CPR. The indicators represent a
combination of the quality of the administration in terms of both the rate of application of compressions and the amount of blood-flow change caused by the compressions. The associated voice prompting advises on these two facets separately – ‘push faster, good compressions’ - ‘push slower, good compressions’ or ‘push harder’. The simple objective is to ensure that the green indicators are on during CPR with the voice prompting ‘good compressions’. The metronome will help the user to keep in time.
Are there special Accessories, Batteries or Electrodes Required and is it different from the 300P?
No, the system is exactly the same as the 300P and therefore users are given the same easy to use interface they have come to expect from a Samaritan. Without additional components visible except the LED lights fo CPR, the Samaritan 500P PAD continues to offer greater cost effectiveness that it is well known for.
How efficient is the CPR Advisor?
Unlike other brands whose CPR assist function may be only detecting the rate and depth of compression, The 500P is far more sophisticated. It actually monitors the hemodynamics that takes place within body during CPR compressions and measures impedance as the guage.
This means that regardless of how the rescuer is performing his CPR technique and whether he conforms to required CPR guidlelines, he can still rely on the Samaritan's advice as to the sufficiency of his delivery and adjust accordingly. Since the monitoring and feedback is pegged to the very relevant parameters of how the heart itslef is doing, rescuers can now deliver a far more effective CPR to victims.
Also, rescuers who have either forgotten their CPR techniques or are afraid they may not deliver an efficient rescue can now take heart. With the CPR advisor function, the Samaritan 500P is now truly meant for public use, anytime, anywhere.
